The Historic center of Rome is the area inside the city walls. Here are all the famous places known to tourists, such as the Spanish Steps, Piazza Navona, Campo de’ Fiori, Trastevere, Vatican and Villa Borghese, the Colosseum and Termini. The geographic center of Rome is considered to be Piazza Venezia, and everything radiates out from this place. As a result, it divides the city into neighborhoods.
Rome is divided into 21 districts known as Municipio. Rome’s entire neighborhood has an amount total of 18 districts. The historical center that is just about four percent of the area of the entire city belongs to Municipio I.
The neighborhoods that are situated in the central part of Rome are:
Sant’Angelo, Ripa, San Saba, Campus Martius, Monti, Trevi, Parione, Regola, Celio , Ludovisi, Trastevere, Sant’Eustachio, Colonna, Pigna, Borgo, Campitelli, Sallustiano, Ponte, Castro Pretorio (partially), Testaccio, and Esquilino.
As for Vatican City, it is also considered to be one of the Rome’s neighborhoods. It is an independent state and Pope governs it.
